Indicator Birding was established in 1998 and has run many short and long tours, most under our own banner, but some for other tour companies. Tours we've runThe following are some of the tours we have done: 6-8 December 2004. Pretoria and Surrounds - a short custom tour for Daniel Peak who saw 234 species in just two days, including 37 regional endemics. Highlights included two Pallid Harriers, many Lesser Kestrel and Amur Falcon, the nest of a Melodious Lark and good views of four Owl species, including African Grass Owl. 8-18 November 2004. Eastern South Africa Sub-tropical Tour. This tour was run on behalf of Birding Ecotours and a range of the best habitats across Eastern South Africa. The 11 day tour produced 396 species, including fabulous birds such as Black Coucal, Martial Eagle, Saddlebilled Stork, Southern Banded-Snake Eagle, Livinstones Turaco, Blue-mantled Crested Flycatcher, Cape Parrot and Cuckoo-Hawk. For a fuller trip report, visit this link. 5-9 October 2004. Eastern Endemics Circuit, with Adam and William Ritchie and Peter Gilchrest. This itinerary is popular for short tours and provides a host of birds. Species seen included Denham's Bustard, Yellow-breasted Pipit, Knysna Turaco and Emerald Cuckoo. For more on this tour itinerary visit this link. 2-6 June 2004. 5 Days of Birding with John and Mary Kormendy and Ken and Margaret Freeman. Gauteng and Surrounds (Birding and Photography) Gauteng grasslands and wetlands and North-west Bushveld, including Vaalkop Dam, Mothabeng Lodge and Borakolalo National Park. Excellent birding was had and top birds included Cuckoo Finch, Sentinel and Short-toed rock Thrush, Temminck's Courser, Martial Eagle, Southern Pied Babbler and Double-banded Sandgrouse. John took a host of superb photographs, which are viewable at this link. 1 April 2004 Day Trip with Pat Adams We visited Vaalkop Dam and neighbouring areas. Top Birds: River Warbler, Crimson-breasted Shrike, Yellow-billed Stork, Goliath Heron and a host of Kingfishers. March 26-29 2004 3 Day Birding Trip Led by Etienne Marais to Memel as a fund-raiser on behalf of BirdLife Northern Gauteng. Top Birds: Denham's Bustard, Blue Korhaan, Yellow-breasted Pipit, Black Harrier, Rufous-chested Sparrowhawk, Grey Crowned Crane, Sentinel Rock Thrush, Cape Vulture, Ground Woodpecker, Buff-streaked Chat. 28 February - 1 March 2004 Customised Gauteng Birding Tour For Susan Clark 8 - 11 February 2004 Mpumalanga Escarpment, Kruger and Dinokeng (customised tour for Anders Heijl) Top Birds: Denham's Bustard, Yellow-breasted Pipit, Southern Tchagra, Grey Crowned Crane, Black-winged Pratincole Forest Canary, Buff-streaked Chat.
