KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Services, No permit is required.
An entrance fee is payable.

The route to Ongoye, both from Eshowe and Mtunzini is complicated.
A guide and a 4X4 vehicle (in summer) are strongly recommended.
Detailed road maps are available from the Zululand Birding Route Office in Eshowe. Ongoye Forest is famous for being the only locality in South Africa where the GREEN BARBET is found. Here you should see most of the birds found in Dlinza and Ntumeni Forests as well as Forest Buzzard, Yellow-streaked Greenbul, Pygmy Kingfisher and Striped Pipit. Also keep a close look out for the numbered fig trees.
